MELODOWNZ is an Urban Poet / MC / Rapper from West Auckland, New Zealand.

MELODOWNZ’ nature is personified in his name; the rapper is a mellow yet lethal MC on the mic. Melo has a unique take on rap, with a distinctive flow and delivery that can switch from hard hitting bars to soft, melodic hooks, painting a picture in motion with his storytelling techniques and poetic lyricism. His critically acclaimed debut EP Avontales was released in July 2017, the title a play on his hometown of Avondale. The EP is conceptualised around gritty stories and fond experiences taking place in Avondale; repping his roots with a fusion of hip-hop and r&b, infused with neo-soul and elements of G-funk, jazz and reggae. The self professed Gemini phenomenon moulds a duality of raw street hip hop, balanced with conscious raising conviction.

Melo has sold out nationwide tours in New Zealand, playing the biggest festivals in his country such as Northern Bass, Rhythm and Vines and Laneway festival, where he played before Billie Eilish and Anderson .Paak. He has opened for international artists such as Joey BadA$$, Anderson .Paak, The Underachievers, Flatbush Zombies, YG, Buddy, RL Grime and many more. In August 2017 Melo embarked on Europe, where he played two shows in Berlin and a show in London. While overseas he linked up with fellow kiwi artist Noah Slee (Majestic Casual), and landed a spot on the renowned COLORS Berlin channel where he showcased a slick performance of ‘$on of a Queen’. This year MELODOWNZ has been the recipient of prestigious kiwi honours, among the Pacific Music Awards prize for “Most Promising Artist” and performing at Aroha Nui charity festival.

Before he became a solo act as MELODOWNZ, Melo performed in hip hop duo Third3ye alongside Angelo King from 2014-2016, taking a spiritually conscious stance on hip hop. Last year Melo took on several respective projects, first joining forces with fellow kiwi musicians producer IllBaz and rapper Raiza Biza, releasing their politically prosed collaborative record High Beams. Following the collaboration, Melo released his second solo EP Melo & Blues, where he showcased his duality complex on the double sided body of work, featuring a guest appearance from prolific UK rapper Coops. Since then, MELODOWNZ has been feeding his followers with new music videos, snippets of his next record and many headline shows across NZ and Australia.

An artist not to be ignored, MELODOWNZ is a Polynesian prophet in the making. Gaining recognition internationally and quickly becoming a hero in Aotearoa, MELODOWNZ is on a mission to share his wisdom with the world.
