Rhyas began Dj’ing drum & bass in Dunedin in 1999 under the alias DJ Caustic and soon became one of the original members of Dunedin’s ‘Subz ’n’ Breakz Kru (SBK). SBK first began with their radio show (The Subz ’n’ Breakz Show) on Dunedin’s Radio One in 2001, of which Rhyas was a co-host for seven years. SBK were responsible for hosting the earliest D&B club nights in the city and bringing through the first international D&B acts to Dunedin in the early 2000’s. Rhyas was a resident DJ at Dunedin’s legendary club ‘Bath St’ as well as being a regular at Queenstown’s late, great, ‘Subculture’
After many years playing club nights, festivals and international support slots throughout the South Island, Rhyas made the move back to his hometown in Auckland in 2008 where he made regular appearances at various venues around the city including the legendary FU Bar where he featured on numerous regular club nights and international support acts.
Known for his impeccable track selection and over 20 years of DJ experience behind him, Rhyas has stamped a reputation as one of the countries leading D&B Dj’s, having played support to some of the biggest and most influential names in Drum & Bass such as Andy C, Roni Size, Doc Scott, Marcus Intalex, Goldie, dBridge, Photek, LTJ Bukem, Alix Perez, Lenzman, Shapeshifter, Ulterior Motive, SpectraSoul and Matrix being just the tip of the iceberg. Rhyas has also been a regular at Northern Bass festival, clocking up 10 appearances at the festival in its 12 year history.
Also a former host of ‘Split Radio’ on Auckland’s late UPFM, Rhyas is now a current member of the ‘Liquid Lowdown’ and features on their regular club nights as well as on their radio show with his monthly guest slot called ‘The Rewind with Rhyas’ on George FM.
