RSD

RSD, AKA Bristol UK bass music producer Rob Smith and one half of respected production
duo Smith & Mighty, has been pushing bass heavy rhythms for more than two decades.
With releases on respected labels including Punch Drunk, Earwax, Tectonic, Black Box,
Moonshine Records, Foundation Audio etc, RSD’s sound is typified by heavy soundsystem
testing sub-lines and junglist dub breaks.

Forming the now legendary production duo Smith & Mighty with collaborator Ray Mighty in
1987, the pair’s early releases on their own Three Stripe label were influential in laying the
groundwork for both the trip hop and jungle scenes for which Bristol would become
renowned.

As well as their own releases, they take production credit for Massive Attack’s first release,
ANY LOVE, and Fresh Four’s top ten hit, WISHING ON A STAR.

Rob remains firmly at the forefront of Bristol’s endlessly inventive music scene, with a
staggering discography and a range of projects encompassing dub, reggae, drum & bass,
2-step, and dubstep. He has produced and remixed for countless artists including Massive
Attack, Dubkasm, DJ Pinch, Horace Andy, Lee Scratch Perry, Alpha Steppa, and recently
for AMJ and Ishan sound.

“it’s not like Rob Smith suddenly started making ‘dubstep’. He’s just continuing the same
vision of bass music that he came up with almost 30 years ago.” – Tom Ford (PunchDrunk)
Frequently touring worldwide for Dub-Reggae, Jungle and Dubstep audiences, Rob became
stranded in New Zealand back in March but continues to remix & produce and alongside
Auckland’s Tobi Jafa has stared the Jafa Sound label in view to releasing music from local
and international artists.
